Mike James - writer, musician, tv producer

Mike James began his career as a Musical Director, and has over twenty-five years' experience in writing, composing, and directing for both stage and television.

As Artistic Director for two of Wales' leading repertory theatres -The Sherman in Cardiff and The Torch, Milford Haven - he directed dozens of plays including many children's musicals. As well as adapting classics such as The History of Mr Polly, Tess of the D'urbervilles, School For Wives and Tom Jones into musicals for the stage, he has written incidental music for many professional productions.

After moving to Scotland in 1997, Mike has become more involved in children's television - working as composer/ writer/ producer for young people's programmes - and has worked on many productions including Breakfast Serials, G Force, My Barmy Aunt Boomerang, Beep Boppers, Captain Abercrombie for BBC, Allsorts for Granada TV, and Our House, Upstairs Downstairs Bears and Squeak! for Scottish Television, GMTV and CITV.

Mike has recently written the music for Channel Five's new comedy series for children The Ice Cream Machine, and for Channel 4 Schools he recently wrote and produced the documentaries What's So Good About Roald Dahl? and What's So Good About Dick King-Smith?

Currently Mike is writing, composing and producing for a new pre-school show for Channel 5, Wooalmaloo!

Mike lives in Glasgow with his wife Jo and their twin children Esme and Oscar.
